Ingredients

For the Caramelized Onions
  • 2 tbsp olive oil Extra virgin is great for flavor
  • 3 large onions, sliced into 1/8" slices The sweeter the onion, the better!
  • 3 tbsp maple syrup Use 100% pure Canadian maple syrup for better flavor.
  • 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar Adds depth and richness.
For the Sliders
  • 8 mini portabella mushrooms Look for fresh, firm mushrooms.
  • 2 tbsp olive oil For sautéing
  • 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar For seasoning
  • Salt & pepper To taste
  • 8 slices Oka cheese Or enough to cover mushrooms—this cheese melts beautifully.
  • Dijon mustard A perfect tangy component.
  • Mayonnaise Optional, but adds creaminess.
  • 8 slices back bacon, sliced into strips Smoked bacon gives more flavor.
  • 8 leaves bib lettuce, trimmed for slider buns Fresh and crisp adds a nice crunch.

Method

Maple Caramelized Onions
  1. Heat 2 tbsp olive oil in a large skillet over medium-low heat.
  2. Add the sliced onions and sauté for 25-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. When they start to soften, add 3 tbsp maple syrup and 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar.
Preparing the Mushrooms
  1. Clean the mushrooms and remove stems.
  2. Sauté them in 2 tbsp olive oil and 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar for around 8-10 minutes until they're tender and lightly browned.
  3. Season with salt and pepper.
Building the Sliders
  1. Toast the slider buns if desired.
  2. Layer ingredients starting with the bun, then mustard, followed by bacon, mushrooms, onions, cheese, and lettuce.
Finish & Serve
  1. Serve your sliders warm with a side of homemade fries or a fresh salad.
  2. Arrange them on a platter with a sprinkle of fresh herbs for a beautiful presentation!

Notes

For the best flavor, always opt for fresh ingredients. Sliders can be frozen—freeze without the buns for up to 2 months.
